Hello All,
I was just curious if you got ur dog micro-chipped. I recently came to know about microchipping and was wondering if it is safe to do so ?

Yes my dog is micro chipped and its absolutely safe as long as microchipping is done by an authorised microchip implanter. Most of the vet's should be able to do it . Microchipping our dog's really gives peace of mind. I would definitely recommend it.

I live in Louisiana and after Hurricane Katrina, I went to Lamar Dixon where all the dogs and cats that were rescued was brought and it was very sad. They still have so many animals unidentified and people had no idea where they pet was taken after the storm. I had Jade microchipped right after that. However, if I could not have taken Jade with me. I would have been one of those sitting on my roof with my dog. Many dogs and cats would have been placed back with their owner if they were microchipped.

There is no age limit but it is recommended the microchip be done at the time your puppy is spayed/neutered, because the microchip is inserted with a relatively large needle, and if it’s done while your puppy is under anesthesia, he wont feel a thing.

A microchip is a Identification system which helps when a pest is lost !! Its a tiny computer chip which is almost the size of a rice grain, it is inserted in between the dog's shoulder blades under the skin . It can then be detected with a handheld scanner. Once the microchip is placed, the dog must be registered with the microchip company.
So god forbidden if a dog is lost and found by some one they can take him to a local shelter or vet , they will scan him to get his owners information and return him to them.
Hope this information helps !!
