    Nominate North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue

    North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue

I am a long time volunteer of this wonderful rescue.

We are a private, non profit, no kill rescue. We rescue all breeds and all ages. NMAR is a fantastic rescue with a great group of volunteers who dedicate so much of themselves to save abandoned, abused and neglected dogs.

I have been volunteering at Moore Humane Society for 3 years, walking dogs, working adoption events, and helping organize Puppy and Adult Dog Training Classes.

Moore Humane Society, a non-profit organization, was the founder of animal welfare in the Sandhills of NC. Founded in 1966, we are celebrating our 45th anniversary of providing safe refuge and humane care to tens of thousands of animals. We do not receive any funding from federal, state, or local government entities. We have over 100 volunteers who are passionate about improving the lot of animals large and small.

I help out at the Humane Society as a volunteer dog walker and cat room attendant.
Moore Humane Society is a great organization! Many volunteers donate their time helping the animals. Some bring in treats, some have special training items like doggie back packs, special double leashes for walking two dogs at a time. It's really fun! Scout packs and Brownie troops can come in and socialize with the animals. Sometimes a dog is brought to the schools so kids can learn how to take care of animals better. I love it!

I have been a volunteer at MHS for 3 years. I am a dog walker, a volunteer at adoption events, I help with our Puppy and Adult Dog Training classes.

Moore Humane Society was started 45 years ago. Thousands of dogs have received shelter and humane care since then... we have a photo of the first dog adopted in 1966! We have over 100 volunteers who care passionately about animal welfare, working to help the animals in our care to find "fur-ever" homes. We are a non-profit organization funded through donations; we receive no federal, state or local government funding.

I'd like to nominate Moore Humane Society. They are the only state licensed, "no-kill" shelter in Moore County and on August 18th, they celebrated their 45th Anniversary. They are the founders of animal welfare in Moore County and have provided safe refuge and humane care to tens of thousands of animals in the past 45 years. They really need help right now as the poor economy is threatning to close their doors.

In addition to rescuing, rehabilitating and adopting homeless animals, Moore Humane Society also offers humane education in the community, a low-cost spay/neuter program, lost and found assistance, TNR, and a chance for individuals, families, groups and organizations to participate in our volunteer program. They are so much more than a shelter!

I would like to nominate Raven Woods Animal Sanctuary which is run by John Thornton, it's located in Roseland, LA...John & his sidekick Leila take care of over 150 dogs, it's a no-kill shelter for homeless, abandoned or abused dogs, who are admitted without regard to age, breed, or adoptability. Last year they were visited by animal control & told to reduce their population by 15 dogs a mo. They scrambled all winter long moving dogs all over the US. Then they were visited by DER & told they must install an expensive septic system. A Lawyer offered her services, money was raised & things started looking good, John visited AC told them about the work that was being done & all seemed OK. Now they are back telling them 'they are in trouble'. John & Leila have hearts of gold & love all these dogs, all of them are taken care of very well & its breaking their hearts knowing that at any time, their precious babes will be seized.
I got involved with them last year through Save a Dog & offered to foster one of their dogs, I feel their pain & wish I could do more to help them. This money can be used to finish up the septic system, much needed pen repairs or even help transport dogs to other states, money that came out of their pockets last year.
    Thank you for listening.

Moore Humane Society in Carthage, NC is a very active part of our community. They prescribe to the proper care and welfare of all animals teaching owner responsibility while caring for animals without homes. They initiate fundraisers and most recently provided a link for giving on a regular basis. Those who unselfishly give of time, talents and funds to provide a real alternative for homeless pets. Their community reach can be seen on Facebook, and our local newspaper. This organization is comprised of some very inspired and talented individuals. They deserve as much assistance as may be generously provided. Tommy Davis
